Living Room Statement
The heirloom piece chosen, the Womb chair, designed by Eero Saarinen in 1948 reveals the idea of a bold statement piece to the Martin's living room. The womb chair offers a plethora of ways to be used to ensure the comfort of the sitter, while also contributing to the overall atmosphere of the room and style being used. The piece, upholstered in black leather provides to the feel of a vinyl record by being matte in texture, while also emitting shine when looked a certain way. The chair itself inspired the rest of the pieces in the space to add to the musical atmosphere, by allowing the other colors and textures in the space to be bold and vibrant without taking away from the heirloom itself. The chair itself is the record in the space, while surrounding furniture and art denote the impression of the music, bold and comforting
Alternating Illumination
This light fixture was inspired by the use of bold and vibrant colors in the fabric of clothing during the mid century era. Through the use of pink resin, the idea of pink velvet was brought to life. As another result of the velvet was brought to life. As another result of the velvet used in this style, the matte black of the metal was also incorporated to endorse this feeling. The alternating sizes of the pieces in this fixture were inspired by the quirky shapes and patterns in the era.
